Bonn, 04 September 2013 – Today the Bundeskartellamt’s President, Andreas Mundt, was elected as the new Steering Group Chair of the International Competition Network (ICN). He follows Eduardo Pérez Motta, the Head of the Mexican Federal Competition Commission.

With the support of the two Vice Chairs Bruno Lasserre, President of the French Autorité de la concurrence, and Vinicius Marques de Carvalho, President of the Brasilian Administrative Council for Economic Defense, Mr. Mundt intends to further enhance the practical significance of the ICN in the coming years. To this end he has committed his tenure to three areas: focus, inclusiveness and implementation. In particular it will be of the highest priority for him to ensure that the ICN is setting the right priorities and focusing on issues and projects that meet the most important needs of members, to pay a renewed attention to the consultation of members and their participation in ongoing work and conferences and to promote the active use of ICN work products. The ICN is a main driver for convergence of competition laws worldwide and will continue its efforts to advocate for implementation of its consensus-based best practices and standards.

Advocacy and outreach will remain important pillars of the ICN work as well. The enhanced participation of NGAs who provide extremely valuable input is most welcome. And last but not least the ICN will also continue to reach out to other international and regional organizations. With regard to the ICN Annual Conference 2014 in Marrakech, the ICN will have a chance of involving the French speaking and possibly new African ICN members more closely.

The above-mentioned approach will help the ICN to achieve the four high-level goals defined for its Second Decade: the dissemination of competition experience and best practices, the formulation of proposals for procedural and substantive convergence, the promotion of competition advocacy and efforts to facilitate effective international cooperation.
