The Agency Effectiveness Working Group (AEWG) has prepared a handbook chapter on agency strategic planning and prioritization, addressing the objectives of strategic plans, the prerequisites of and constraints related to effective strategic planning, internal processes and external consultations, communication on strategic planning, and the use of prioritization criteria and the process of prioritization. The chapter will be introduced at next week’s annual conference.
Among its guidance, the chapter says: “It is good practice to have a mission statement that is clearly articulated, reflects the agency’s legislative mandate, focuses on outcomes, and is consistent with the agency’s resources.” A mission statement defines an agency’s purpose. It identifies the overarching goals that the agency seeks to achieve.
