The World Bank is preparing a publication for policymakers about the benefits of competition. They are compiling examples from a variety of jurisdictions and in particular Bank recipient countries, and hope the report can serve as a useful reference to promote the benefits of competition and general outreach.

The report will be based on the UK’s Office of Fair Trading recently published leaflet, “Government in Markets”. The document acts as a guide to policy makers about why competition matters, focusing on broad principles and not specific technical language.

The World Bank is interested in a broad scope of successful examples in any industry with any sort of competition issue and government involvement, for example a particular competition agency advocacy with government or market study that influenced government and resulted in a more competitive market. It is particularly helpful if there is a report or some type of analysis after the case or a clear outcome illustrating that the competition agency intervention was beneficial to competition and ultimately consumers.

Please send an email to icnblog@ftc.gov with examples from your jurisdiction.
