ICN History

As a virtual network, it may be a bit odd to think in terms of ICN history.  Next year, the ICN will celebrate its 10th anniversary.  Today’s blog takes a look back at a time – September/October 2000 – when the case for an international network was being discussed.

 Ten years ago, in September 2000, in Brussels, Assistant Attorney General Joel Klein made one of the first speeches promoting the idea of the global competition initiative that would become the ICN.  A month later, in New York, Acting Assistant Attorney General A. Douglas Melamed outlined some initial thoughts on the organization and work of such an initiative.  On both occasions, Mario Monti, Member of the European Commission in charge of Competition, also addressed and welcomed the idea.  Here are the links:
